Please Note, in order to use this method you will need the DVR remote control, a DVR monitor if not installed with the unit, a USB pen drive (we recommend using a high speed 64GB+ pen drive) and a laptop/PC that you can install the video conversion software on too.
Step 1.
Ensure the DVR unit is powered up with the monitor turned on, then point the remote control at the DVR unit (not the screen, the physical DVR unit as the infrared receiver is located on the front of the unit as shown below) and press the play button on the remote control to open the manual footage retrieval menu.
Step 2.
If the DVR is password protected, you will be prompted to enter the password before the manual footage retrieval menu is shown. If you do not know the DVR password please contact your account manager or NIBC support team support@nibc.co.uk or 02894 485 422.
Step 3.
Using the arrow keys on the remote control select the date and time of the footage you wish to view. Left and right arrows will change the page, and up and down will change the file selection. (The DVR records in 30-minute files starting from when the DVR is powered up so you will see several files for each day depending on how long the DVR was online that day)
Step 4.
When viewing the footage, use the navigation buttons (fast forward, rewind, pause, play & stop) on the remote control to locate the footage you wish to download.
Step 5.
Take a note of the date, time, camera channels and length of footage you wish to download then press the stop button on the remote control to return back to the main menu.
Step 6.
Insert your USB pen drive into the DVR (socket will be located on the front or rear of the unit). Now press the menu button on the remote control, if password protected you will be prompted for the password again. Enter the password and then select ‘Login’ to open the DVR menu.
Step 7.
Using the arrow keys on the remote control, scroll down to the ‘Backup’ sub-menu item and press the right arrow to move on to the second menu on the right hand side of the screen. Using the arrow buttons again, enter the date followed by the select button located in the centre of the remote control. Repeat the above to select the start time of the footage, the length of the footage you wish to download, and the selected camera channels required.
Once the search criteria is entered select ‘Yes’ to begin downloading the footage.
Step 8.
The file will begin to download to the USB pen drive, a progress bar is shown on screen to notify you of progress.
Step 9.
Once completed the screen will show ‘Backup Complete’, now you can safely eject the USB pen drive and press Stop twice on the remote control to return to main screen
Step 10.
The downloaded file will be saved in the raw video format .SD so you will require a video player that can play this format of video file. If you do not have a video player that can play this file type then we recommend that you use Carbox Player to view and convert the file. Carbox Player can be downloaded from NIBC’s Knowledge Base via the following link or attached to this article:

Step 11.
Carbox Player does not need installing and can opened directly via the CarBox2.exe executable file, you may need to install Microsoft DirectX first before it will open. If so, the dxwebsetup.exe executable file is also saved in the Carbox Player download. The Carbox Player software will be shown as below:
Step 12.
Insert your USB drive into your Laptop/PC, and select the ‘Play Back’ link located at the top of the Carbox Player menu:
Step 13.
Locate your USB drive and select the .SD file to load in Carbox Player.
Step 14.
Once loaded, double click the file you wish to view from the Playback menu:
Step 15.
Now use the navigation keys at top of the screen to find the incident you wish to save/convert:
Step 16.
Select ‘Back Up’ from the top menu bar:
Step 17.
From the ‘Backup’ menu, select the camera channels and backup format you wish to convert the video to. The set the file location you want to save the file to via the ‘Backup Path’ link and finally click ‘Backup’ to begin converting the video file:
Step 18.
The converted video file will now be available in the file path selected in the above step. You can view the .avi file in any compatible video player software such as VLC Player.
